Is Storytelling enough to solve the climate and biodiversity crises?

Pollution. Habitat loss. Drought. Extinction. Desensitised.

Trigger words from stories we've all read before. Today's topic? Well, you already know what I'm talking about...

Global conversation concerning biodiversity loss and climate change rose in the 70s.Famous books such as Silent Spring, published in 1962, created a new public awareness that nature was vulnerable to human intervention. Environmental activism was born.

Since then, storytelling has become humanity's favourite way to take action. Yet, how much has changed as the years roll by with headlines spouting the same information?

Even with increasing public action, since 1970, the average abundance of species populations has declined by 44%, according to research from Utrecht University.

Many of us are overwhelmed and frustrated by the barrage of stories regarding biodiversity loss and climate change. We are even more worried about our leaders' apathy toward the twin crises.

According to the World Economic Forum, this global, political, and economic inaction causes 70% of youth (aged 16-25) to fear their future.

Humanities' current story tells us how $166 billion goes into protecting and restoring our planet's most fragile natural resources. About how to sustainably manage biodiversity and maintain our ecosystems, the number must jump to $1 trillion by 2030.

A colossal number and a tight deadline - terrifying.

Now, while discussing the solutions and consequences of biodiversity loss and climate change is essential, we need more. Stories and conversations are no longer enough.

We need global action at an industrial scale.

We at Nomica have created a tokenization platform, marketplace, and advanced financing solution for Environmental, Social, and Governance actions. We allow any ESG asset to be tokenized at a project level, eliminating the fragmentation of the ESG market and creating fully auditable, transparent, and trusted assets.

The Nomica marketplace is a one-stop shop for all ESG products: from grassroots projects to multi-billion-dollar nation-state asset exchanges. Simply put, we turn good deeds into NFTs that important actors buy to help scale action.  Nomica incentivizes behavioural change; we recognize and value real action. We have created an infrastructure to help move this necessary $1 trillion in the right direction.

The stories we've heard have inspired us. It's time to (literally) put our money where our mouths are and take action against biodiversity loss and climate change.
